Created by law n ° 2012-018 on electronic communications (LCE) of December 17, 2012 amended by law n ° 2013-003 of February 19, 2019 to regulate the electronic communications and postal markets in a context of modernity and technological development, ARCEP must assume several missions, the most important of which are:
- Management and control of operators authorized by the Government to establish and operate networks and services open to the public
- Licensing of independent networks - terminal equipment approvals and installers approvals - Certificate of registration for value-added service providers
- Resource management
- Delegated authority for electronic certification
- Protection of consumer interests
- State representation and international cooperation
