Formed in Jakarta in 2010, Remotivi is a form of citizen initiative that responds to the practice of the media industry after the New Order which is increasingly commercial and ignores its public responsibilities.

Since its establishment, Remotivi's operational costs have been funded by public donations, business results, research projects and donor agency grants. So far Remotivi has received grants from Tifa, Hivos and Cipta Media Seluler Foundation.

In August 2014, Remotivi received the 2014 Tasfrif Award from the Alliance of Independent Journalists.
