Repórter Brasil was founded in 2001 by journalists, social scientists, and educators to encourage reflection and action on the violation of the fundamental rights of peoples and workers in Brazil. Due to its work, it has become one of the most important sources of information on slave labor in the country. Their reports, journalistic investigations, research, and educational methodologies have been used by leaders of the government, business, and civil society as instruments to combat contemporary slavery, a problem that affects thousands of people.
Mission
Identify and make public situations that hurt labor rights and cause socio-environmental damage in Brazil with a view to mobilizing social, political, and economic leaders to build a society that respects human rights, which is more just, equal, and democratic.
Structure - Repórter Brasil has two main areas of activity that bring together all of its projects: Journalism and Research, responsible for the production of information and analysis that support social, political and economic leaders; and Educational Methodology, aimed at disseminating information about rights and knowledge exchange, involving academics, educators, workers, and community leaders. Two other areas strengthen the work developed by the teams, one of articulation and representation in different institutional spheres, and one of the financial and administrative structure. Repórter Brasil has its accounts analyzed by independent auditors annually.
