Adoption of the Law on State Survey and Cadastre and Registration of Real Estate Rights ("RS Official Gazette", No. 83/92), which entered into force on November 20, 1992, as the legal successor of the Republic Geodetic Authority. He took over all the municipal geodetic authorities, the geodetic authority of the city of Belgrade and the provincial geodetic authority, so 1992 can be considered as the year when RGZ started to work with the present form of interior design.

20 years ago RGZ was formed as a special republican organization for performing geodetic and administrative tasks in the field of state survey, land cadastre, cadastre of real estate and power lines and in this form of organization, as a state body, works after 20 years, with a number of established new competencies .

Republic Geodetic Institute - RGZ, is a special organization that performs professional and state administration tasks related to state survey, real estate cadastre, line cadastre, basic geodetic works, address register, topographic-cartographic activity, real estate value assessment, geodetic-cadastral information system and National Geospatial Data Infrastructure and geodetic works in engineering and technical fields.

The Republic Geodetic Authority (hereinafter referred to as: the Institute) performs tasks within its scope of work within and outside the seat. The seat of the Institute is in Belgrade.

• The scope of the Institute is surveying and civil service activities related to:
• basic surveying;
• cadastral and land consolidation diameter;
• establishment, reconstruction and maintenance of real estate cadastre;
• line diameter, establishment and maintenance of line cadastre;
• professional supervision of surveying;
• issuing and revoking the license for the work of the Surveying Organization;
• issuing and revocation of a geodetic license;
• issuance and revocation of the authorization to shoot from the airspace of the territory of the Republic of Serbia for the purposes of state diameter;
• address register;
• maintaining a register of spatial units;
• state border diameter and keeping of state border register;
• cadastral classification and land crediting;
• cadastral revenue calculation;
• valuation and management of real estate values;
• remote detection, topographic diameter and topographic-cartographic activity;
• issuing cartographic and other publications and giving consent for the publication of cartographic publications;
• keeping records of geographical names and proposing to the Government members of the Committee for the Standardization of Geographical Names;
• establishment, maintenance and disposal of geodetic and cadastral information system;
• keeping archives of documentation of state diameter, real estate cadastre, line cadastre and topographic-cartographic activity;
• participation in the establishment and maintenance of the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure;
• inspection of the work of the surveying organization;
• certification of geodetic bases in engineering and technical fields;
• providing services within the scope of the Institute within the framework of international cooperation;
• geomagnetism;
• aeronomy.

In administrative affairs of state diameter, establishment and renewal of real estate cadastre, establishment of line cadastre, as well as their maintenance, resolves:

• in the first instance, the narrower internal unit of the CES formed for the territory of the municipality, city, or city municipality - the real estate cadastre service;
• in the second degree Department.
