RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together they use their voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty.
Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity for those who need it most.
Volunteer advocates are backed by in-depth research, the legislative expertise of RESULTS staff, and detailed training.
With every hour of their time, they multiply their impact through the power of advocacy — whether it’s helping change policy to support millions of families putting food on the table or helping raise billions of dollars for the world’s most vulnerable children.
RESULTS advocates are not paid lobbyists. They come from every corner of Australia and around the world and prove that every voice has power. And by bringing all of their voices together, they can change the world.
RESULTS Australia works in partnership with many national and international organisations, in particular their RESULTS affiliates in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Korea and Mexico.
They are also a partner in ACTION, a global health partnership of advocacy organisations working to influence policy and mobilise resources to fight diseases of poverty and improve poor people’s access to healthcare.
RESULTS International (Australia) is a non-partisan and non-profit organisation as well as a full financial member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) and is a signatory to their Code of Conduct.
History
RESULTS was founded in the United States in 1980s by Sam Daley-Harris, a teacher and musician.
Sam was inspired by a report from the National Academy of Sciences that said that the world already had the knowhow and resources to end world hunger. But the political will was lacking.
The idea of mobilising, educating and empowering a network of citizens to create this political will was born – and turned into action.
Not long after getting RESULTS started in the U.S., Sam helped to set up RESULTS affiliates around the world, creating a more powerful, global voice for the end of poverty. Today there are RESULTS organisations in the in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico and of course Australia.
Most of the RESULTS affiliates, including Australia, also belong to the ACTION Partnership. Founded in 2005, ACTION is a global health advocacy partnership of organisations working to influence policy and mobilise resources to fight diseases of poverty and improve equitable access to health services.
