About

Since its founding in 2001, RACIDA has worked to build the capacity of Agro- pastoralist communities living in Arid and Semi-Arid lands across the Horn of Africa in preventing and mitigating the impact of hazards of communities at risk. Anchored by a Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) approach, and guided by their belief that the communities they work with should be at the centre of their own development trajectory, they implement practical programmes that enable (Agro)-pastoral development, empowerment and wellbeing.

VISION

They envision Communities in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands in the Horn of Africa having secured livelihoods and sustainably managing their natural resources.

MISSION

To enhance self reliance and prosperity amongst vulnerable pastoralist communities living in Arid and Semi Arid Lands through promotion of better livelihood systems, sustainable use of natural resources and community empowerment.

VALUES

  • Transparency and accountability
  • Solidarity with poor and marginalized communities
  • Exhibition of highest level of professionalism
  • Respect for authority (state laws, organizational constitution, policies, etc.)
  • Respect for life, human dignity and each other
  • Team work and voluntarism

STRATEGY

RACIDA currently implements projects across the Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, and South Sudan under six core programs guided by our three strategic goals: Providing Humanitarian Assistance, Building Resilience, and Promoting Peace and Security.

At the heart of RACIDA’s operations is our humanitarian response to natural and manmade hazards such as droughts, floods, and conflict impacting Agro-Pastoralist communities in our target countries.

RACIDA recognizes sustainable development outcomes cannot be delivered to our target communities without ensuring peace and stability.  We work directly with communities to build their capacity in peace building, combining both traditional and modern techniques to conflict mitigation and resolution.

The impact of disasters on community development in our target areas is severe. RACIDA’s programs aim to improve the resilience of Agro-pastoral communities so they can effectively recover from the effects of shocks (natural disaster, conflict, and economic instability) and continue working towards sustainable development.
