Sager Foods is a family-owned and operated food company based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Sager is the leading packager of vegetable oils in Canada and serves all of the major Canadian grocery chains.
The Company’s principle products include a full range of vegetable oils including Canola, Soya, Corn, Olive, Sunflower, Peanut, Safflower and various blends including Canola & Olive oil.
Sager was established in 1983 by Santo Fata Sr. as a packager of vegetable oil products primarily for grocery chains and foodservice distributors. In the early 1980s, Canadian grocery chains began introducing private label products in their own stores to compete with the established national brands. Sager was among the first suppliers to this market segment which has and continues to grow at a strong rate. Many of their client relationships date back many years and they are very proud to have the privilege of serving Canada’s leading grocery chains.
In addition to their private label business, Sager packs a number of products under national brands. These co-packing clients represent an important part of both their retail and foodservice businesses. In addition, since its inception, Sager has also developed its own brands including La Perla, Cantalia and Regina. La Perla, Cantalia and Regina products can be found throughout Canada. Recently, Sager has broadened its product offering to include organic oils and a wide assortment of sauces.
Sager currently operates two plants, both in the Montreal area. In their main plant, they package all types of vegetable oils in containers ranging in size from 375 ML bottles to 16L pails to 45 gallon drums. Their Akita plant produces some of their specialty oils such as their Stir-Fry oil and their Spicy and Aromatic oil products. In addition, all of their sauces are produced at their Akita plant.
Both of their plants are certified kosher (MK ¬ Montreal Kosher) and their main plant is organically certified by Quality Assurance International (QAI) of California. They are also proud to announce that they are HACCP certified. Their Akita plant also is federally-certified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
