About

SALAMA was created in 1996 by the Malagasy Government with the support of technical and financial partners working in the field of health (World Bank, European Union, French Cooperation, etc.). Ensuring the supply of generic essential drugs and medical materials to all public health facilities and private non-profit organizations in Madagascar is the raison d'être of SALAMA.

The celebration of its 20th anniversary was marked by various activities. At the heart of the celebration, an open day on generic drugs and the health care system in Madagascar was organized, because SALAMA believes that it is its duty to sensitize doctors to prescribe generics.

Throughout these 20 years, SALAMA has been able to properly carry out its mission in Madagascar even during difficult periods. It was able to materialize its motto:  "for the health of the greatest number ". Thus, major advances have been made thanks to the support of the Malagasy State and the Technical and Financial Partners.

In 2017, SALAMA will be in a position to meet one of its challenges defined in its five-year strategic plan 2015-2019: "By 2019, SALAMA will acquire a logistical capacity specific to its expansion." Thanks to the support of the European Union, SALAMA will have its own premises located in Anosiala, where the foundation stone was laid on February 2. This construction project is part of the PASSOBA Santé program, implemented by the French Development Agency and Unicef.

SALAMA expresses its thanks to all its partners and confirms its willingness to collaborate perpetually. They will spare no effort to better serve the Malagasy population and so that our vision: "The SALAMA Purchasing Center is a national pride and a benchmark for the African continent in terms of access to quality drugs" , is not a empty word.
