Save the Children has more than 90 years ago (1919) founded by Eglantyne Jebb. They do so personally proposed a charter in which they described the rights of children. This charter later formed the basis of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations Convention of 1989. This Convention is ratified by the Netherlands and anchored in the statutes of Save the Children.
Meanwhile, Save the Children has grown into the world's largest independent organization in the field of children's rights. Any child who is threatened in his or her child has our attention and care. Regardless of faith, gender, race, color, nationality or political opinion.
In their 90 year history, Save the Children has built an expert, widespread organization in 127 countries. Worldwide work daily more than 27,000 Save the Children professionals, of which over 85% from their local field offices, to help children in vulnerable situations.
This is an acute emergency by a (natural) disaster or protracted conflict situations such as war or chronic poverty.
They focus on two main tasks: saving lives and saving the dreams and the future of children.Medical care, nutrition and education save lives. Learn to read and write, but also learn about children's rights, remedies, peace and security, provide opportunities for a better future.
They work according to their 'theory of change'. This theory includes: giving children a voice, innovating solution forms, together as much as possible and achieve large-scale results. All their programs are developed in collaboration with children, parents, governments, communities and other local partners. So they offer sustainable solutions that are 'future proof'.
