WHAT THEY DO

Schmidt Marine Technology Partners is a program of the Schmidt Family Foundation. We focus their work on:

FUNDING
Funding the development of ocean technologies that solve complex ocean health issues, and in most cases strong commercialization potential.

PROVIDING
Providing broader business support through a network of consultants and mentors.

HELPING
Helping those working in the marine technology field get better connected to each other and with outside resources.

ACTING
Acting as a source of vetted information about emerging trends and companies.

Their goal is to tailor their assistance to the needs of individual groups, and to provide long-term support for groups whose efforts show the most promise. Beyond funding they tailor their assistance to the needs of individual groups to help them move their ideas across the dreaded “Valley of Death” toward economic sustainability through paying contracts, licensing, or traditional investments.

They are happy to support a wide range of groups, whether academic researchers interested in spinning out new technologies, start-ups working out of garages, nonprofits building open-source tech, or anyone else working on an innovative idea with the potential for significant impact. They are also dedicated to building opportunities for those working in ocean technology and conservation to become better connected. Toward that end they sponsor networking events at our offices and at various ocean tech events, they  host other groups at our offices, and general work to expand our network through meeting with groups around the world.
