The State Secretariat for Agricultural Development and Fisheries – SEDAP – a direct state administration body, was created on January 1, 2015, through Law 8096, signed by Governor Simão Jatene. The new body is the result of the merger of the State Departments of Agriculture and Fisheries, its purpose is to promote sustainable development and the strengthening of agricultural, livestock, fishing and aquaculture activities in the State of Pará, in all its modalities, enabling the increase of social and economic benefits of these sectors, aiming at the well-being of present and future generations, for the benefit of society.
Sedap's functions are:
I - formulate, plan and coordinate policies and guidelines for the sustainable development of agriculture, livestock, fishing and aquaculture production activities in the State
II - support the formation, strengthening and consolidation of production chains of plant and animal origin ;
III - support the strengthening and modernization of family production in agriculture and fishing;
IV - to promote articulation with the Municipalities aiming at the municipalization of actions aimed at agricultural and fisheries development;
V - to stimulate studies, surveys and research programs and the generation of new technologies aimed at the agricultural, livestock, fisheries and aquaculture development in the State;
VI - coordinate and monitor the preparation of plans, programs and projects for the development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the State;
VII - formulate technical norms and standards for the protection, conservation and preservation of the productive chains of agricultural, livestock, fishing and aquaculture activities, in compliance with the relevant legislation;
VIII - promote inter-institutional integration in the execution of agricultural, fisheries and aquaculture policy.
