About

The SIMEC Group is a multi-faceted commodity business spanning five continents, with extensive operations across Shipping, Industry, Mining, Energy and Commodities. The company was established over 50 years ago by Mr Parduman K. Gupta, who is also current Chairman of SIMEC. In 2016 SIMEC’s turnover exceeded US$ 2.4bn and net assets were valued at US$ 3.2bn. Due to the strength of its financial performance, the Group was recently rated A+ by India’s major credit rating agency.

  • - SIMEC Shipping is centered around the chartering, leasing and ownership of vessels as well as port ownership and processing, and operations are soon to include port management, floating platforms for loading and discharge midstream and a fleet of river vessels.
  • - SIMEC Industry is currently completing the final stages of its expansion through the acquisition of a major cement manufacturing facility in Gujrat, India. This state-of-the-art modern and eco-friendly 6 million tonnes integrated cement plant operates its captive limestone mines, as well as own port, power plant and desalination unit. Further ancillary cement grinding and bagging plants of 1 million tonne each are under implementation in Bahrain and Sri Lanka.
  • - SIMEC Mining has an active acquisition programme which is focused on integrating and supporting the trading, steel and power generation activities of the Group and Liberty House. It’s interests are focused in India, Africa, Indonesia, the UK and the USA.
  • - SIMEC Energy has substantial and growing interests in the energy sector both in the United Kingdom and further afield. The business purchased the 393 MWh Uskmouth Power Station in December 2014, a coal fired station which is currently being converted for biomass fuel generation. In addition in February 2016 it has also announced a sizeable investment in Tidal Lagoon Power Limited, a move which is part of a wider strategy to create multi-billion pound renewable energy capacity worldwide and apply innovative technologies to provide low-cost power for energy-intensive industries, particularly steel. Power generation plans are under way also in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Africa.
  • - SIMEC Commodities specialises in the trade of both hard and soft commodities across the globe. With subsidiaries in 6 major locations worldwide, the division deals with grains such as wheat, barley, maize, sugar and rice, as well as energy (including crude oil, power, coal and biomass) and non-ferrous base metals (LME grade Nickel, Copper, Zinc, Tin, etc.), ore (chrome, iron and nickel ore) and steel (slabs, billets, HRC and CRC).
