What is the Social Fund for Housing

It is an autonomous credit institution, under Public Law, with legal personality, created by Legislative Decree No. 238 of May 17, 1973. It was born as a social security program in which the State, Employers and Workers participate.

Background

Constitutional Base: Constitution of the Republic of El Salvador, Art.119: «The construction of housing is declared of social interest. The State will try to ensure that the greatest number of Salvadoran families become owners of their homes. …»

Creation and purpose: Autonomous credit institution, governed by Public Law. Starts operations in 1973.

Art. 1. Law and Basic Regulations: The Social Fund for Housing is established as a social security development program.

Its purpose is to contribute to the solution of the workers' housing problem, providing them with the adequate means for the acquisition of comfortable, hygienic and safe housing.

It grants the credit to the worker, who freely chooses the housing solution that he requires according to his expectations and ability to pay.
