The corporate name of the company becomes in February 2009, “Algerian Company of Management of the Electricity Transport Network, called GRTE Spa”, joint stock company with capital of 40,000,000,000 DA. GRTE is responsible for the operation, maintenance and development of the electricity transmission network, with a view to guaranteeing adequate capacity in relation to transit and reserve needs. In accordance with Law No. 02-01 of February 5, 2002, GRTE has a natural monopoly on the transmission of electricity. This monopoly guarantees it a required income which comes from the remuneration for energy transit, the pricing of which is set by the CREG and which is the same throughout the national territory.

GRTE.Spa is administered by a Board of Directors, chaired by its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. It also has a General Assembly. The technical relations between the various operators (Producers, Distribution Company and High Voltage Customers) connected to the electricity transmission network are governed by the ministerial decree of February 28, 2008, setting the technical rules for connection to the transmission network and the rules of conduct of the SPTE (Electricity Transmission Production System).

The management of the SPTE electricity transmission production system is carried out by the Electrical System Operator, a subsidiary company of the Sonelgaz group, which must constantly ensure that the balance between supply and demand for electrical energy is maintained.
