The Foundation also used the exhibition to present its upcoming philanthropic projects for 2012, and has signed an agreement with the Housing Bank of Senegal (BHS) to build toilets and enclosing walls for 41 state schools in Dakar, and in seven other regions in Senegal.
3 areas of action, 13 recurrent programs
Since its creation on January 28, 2002, the Sonatel Foundation has contributed to the social and cultural development of Senegal through a sponsorship program based around three key sectors: health, education and culture.
Health: the modernization and strengthening of medical support, supporting projects aimed at prevention and raising awareness
Education: enrolling and keeping girls in school, recognizing high achievers, helping underprivileged children
Culture: preserving heritage and memory, supporting festivals, and promoting young artists
Providing access to health care, taking care of the sick and combating the spread of malaria are among the Foundation’s top priorities. As the first organization to launch a Telethon in Senegal, the Sonatel Foundation also supports the elderly, and has provided free medical consultations, laboratory work-ups, and cataract surgery since 2004. By equipping 300 health facilities in rural areas, the Sonatel Foundation is also fighting against maternal and child mortality. In addition, they aim to support any project that promotes human creativity with regards to publishing, visual arts, cinema, as well as the preservation of heritage and memory.
