About

Sound Africa is a homegrown podcast organisation passionate about producing African stories that advance social justice and amplify the voices of everyday people. They seek out the untold and obscure, go beyond surface-level coverage of big events, and shed light on matters of public interest without losing sight of the human interest. In doing so they aim to amplify African voices through the power of digital audio and the internet.

They’re a collective of journalists, media makers, and radio lovers with a passion for social transformation and inspired by the “theatre of the mind”. Over the last five years or so podcasting or the “ audio revolution” has had its moment across the globe. While there are some really great podcasts popping up throughout the country and across the country, they envision a thriving, dynamic local podcast industry.  Radio has always played a revolutionary role in the African content, it has been an integral way of communicating for many social movements and organising, this is evident when looking at the powerful trajectory community radio in South Africa and the rest of the continent has today. They believe that the local podcasting scene has the power and potential to honour and further this legacy.
