The South Lebanon Water Establishment, based in Saida, was established after the promulgation of Law No. 221 of May 29, 2000, which merges the interests of the four former waters of Saida, Tasah spring, Tire and Jabal Amel. Each of these units operated as independent units without any coordination between them. Facilities to distribute water independently.
This law defines the functions of the South Lebanon Water Corporation. In accordance with the provisions of Article 7 of the Irrigation Water Management and Investment Act, the Foundation was exempted from these duties for the national interest of the Litani River.
The tasks of the South Lebanon Water Corporation can be summarized as follows:
Study, implement, invest, maintain and renovate water projects to distribute drinking water.
Collecting, treating and disposing of waste water in accordance with the General Water and Sanitation Guidelines or prior approval by the Ministry to use public water sources or the sites of wastewater treatment plants or new wastewater treatment plants.
C- To propose tariffs for drinking water services and wastewater disposal, taking into account the general socio-economic conditions.
(D) Monitoring the quality of distributed drinking water and the quality of waste water at estuaries and the exit of purification plants. In 2002, the Government issued Decree No. 8122 dated 3/7/2002 concerning the application of the Water Sector Regulation Law. The decree limited the implementation of Law No. 221 dated 29/5/2000 (regulating the water sector)
