Spirit of America
About

Spirit of America is a 501c3 nonprofit supported solely through private-sector contributions. Since Spirit of America's founding in 2003, it has provided millions in targeted assistance to help US troops help local people in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa: Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, Pakistan, Djibouti, Mauritania and Kenya.

Mission

Spirit of America’s mission is to help Americans serving abroad assist local people in need. Spirit of America is the only nonprofit organization that directly supports the safety and mission success of deployed US personnel.

What We Do

Spirit of America (SoA) provides venture capital-type support to the security and stability operations of deployed US personnel. We provide humanitarian, civic and economic assistance in direct response to needs identified by American military and civilian personnel. SoA adds the agility, innovativeness and resources of the American private sector to the capabilities of the US government and military in support of US missions abroad. This support makes US troops safer and more successful in their mission and helps local people not reached by large-scale aid programs. Spirit of America also provides the American people a way to understand, connect with and support the vital work of US personnel serving abroad.

Donors and Donations

Spirit of America is supported entirely by private contributions from individuals, foundations and businesses. It receives no government funding. SoA has received over $20 million in donations from more than 17,000 supporters. Donors may choose to earmark their donations to specific projects and 100% of their gift will be used for the direct project expenses specified by the donor.

Examples of Our Support

Spirit of America offers goods, expertise and project funding to help US troops assist local people, including local police and security forces.

Expertise and Know-How

In partnership with GLG Research, SoA offers US civil-military teams access to private-sector experts who can advise on questions related to stability and development: agriculture, business creation, training, education & much more.

Project Funding and Value Added

Working with our network of experts SoA can develop and fund solutions to problems that US civil-military teams seek to solve. These projects build on, and increase the impact of, what civil-military teams can accomplish with government resources.

Examples include: employment and job training (Kandahar), education (Helmand), food security and livestock health (W. Africa), and village stability (Tajikistan).
