SRHR Africa Trust (SAT) is dedicated to aiding adolescents and young individuals across southern Africa in navigating healthy, joyful, confident, and secure paths toward adulthood. As a 32-year-old non-governmental organization (NGO), it operates as a network comprising activists, NGOs, and supporters who are deeply committed to the welfare of young people, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and the underlying factors influencing adolescent well-being.
All initiatives spearheaded by SAT are centered around young people and facilitated by them. Through our Youth Hubs and collaborative efforts with partner organizations, SAT fosters connections among young individuals while also facilitating their access to vital services, governmental bodies, the African Union Commission, and international agencies.
SAT was established in 1990 by a consortium of the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA), the University of Manitoba, McMaster University, and the Canadian Society for International Health with a mandate to support community-based organizations to strengthen programming in HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa. In 2003, SAT was incorporated as an independent regional, not for profit organization called the Southern African AIDS Trust. Since then, SAT has evolved its programming to focus on sexual and reproductive health rights in eastern and southern Africa, and is now called the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Africa Trust – better known as SRHR Africa Trust (SAT).
