State Department of Horticulture (Government of Himachal Pradesh)

In Himachal Pradesh, the Horticulture Department is under the administrative control of Principal Secretary (Horticulture). The Director of Horticulture is the Head of the Department, assisted by the Joint Horticulture Director, Deputy Horticulture Director and subject matter experts at the Directorate level. The Directorate is divided into seven main parts and whose names are as follows. Common garden Fruit plant nutrition Plant protection Post harvest management and marketing Fruit legislation and experimentation Garden economics and statistics Garden information services For the implementation of garden development programs and activities, the state is divided into two regions, Northern Region and South Zone. Horticulture development activities are directly controlled by the Director of Horticulture in the districts covered in the southern region of the state (Bilaspur, Kinnaur, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan). The office of the Project Director (Khumb) is at Chambaghat, Solan and Joint Horticulture Director is headquartered in Shimla. From where the activities of mushroom development and fruit assembly are conducted. The Additional Director of Horticulture has been appointed at Dharamshala, District Kangra, from where the development of ongoing garden development activities is carried out in the northern state. While all other districts (Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti and Una) have also been included under the control of the Director of Horticulture. Deputy Director Horticulture has been appointed in each district, whose task is to implement the implementation and coordination of the ongoing garden activities in their respective districts. Assistance in gardens, nurseries, plant protection, floriculture, and marketing is provided by subject specialist gardens. Their appointment depends on the activities in the respective districts. A garden center has been set up at the block level in each district by subject experts, from where development plans are implemented and other services are provided to fruit growers. For matters related to the development in each horticulture area, assistance is provided by the Horticulture Officers.
