Stevens Institute of Technology
Stevens Institute of Technology is a premier, private research university situated in Hoboken, New Jersey, overlooking the Manhattan skyline.
Founded in 1870 by America's First Family of Inventors — who patented steam ferries and the modern form of railroad track, among many other inventions — technological innovation has remained the hallmark of Stevens’ education and research programs ever since.
Today, within the university’s three schools and one college, 6,600 undergraduate and graduate students collaborate with more than 290 faculty members in an interdisciplinary, student-centric, entrepreneurial environment to advance the frontiers of science and leverage technology to confront global challenges.
Stevens' alumni network, more than 40,000 strong, also continues to make national and global impact while contributing energy, ideas and support to the continued growth and momentum of the university.
To inspire, nurture and educate leaders in tomorrow’s technology-centric environment while contributing to the solution of the most challenging problems of their time.
The Institutional Vision
Stevens will become a premier student-centric technological research university, focusing on areas of true societal need where Stevens possesses significant depth and expertise across multiple disciplines: healthcare and medicine; sustainable energy; financial systems; defense and security; and STEM education. As their education and research capacity grows in these areas, so will their influence.
Four strategic priorities will enable them to make a far-reaching impact:
Stevens will create a new paradigm that elegantly combines stellar learning opportunities and trailblazing research as inseparable components of a 21st century education.
Excellence In All They Do
Stevens will create a pervasive culture of excellence that will serve as a model for their partners and their students throughout their lives.
Through Collaboration, Impact
They will build a culture in which their strengths meld with and enhance those of synergistic and complementary collaborators. Together they will produce novel research, create visionary education programs and influence policy and the national agenda, enhancing the perspective of their students and the international reach and reputation of Stevens.
Technology At Their Core
Their heritage is built on technology, from the transportation technology pioneered by the Stevens family to the countless technology-based companies launched and led by their alumni to the technological advancements created by their faculty researchers. Just as technology is their past, so it will differentiate them in the future, offering a distinctive educational experience to their students, driving their research and scholarship, leading them to devise novel teaching and learning methods and enhancing their administrative, outreach and communication activities.See more
