About

The Strategic Cities Development Programme is an Government Initiative under the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development with Sri Lanka’s urban vision to develop the secondary cities as a system of competitive, environmentally sustainable and well -linked cities in a bid to foster economic growth and prosperity. In each city region the project will targeted two broad categories of strategic investments such as Integrated urban services improvement and public urban space enhancements which enhancing the functional aspects of the city as well as the attractiveness and livability of the city.

The world bank embarks on the first phase of this Programme with interventions in Kandy Gall and Jaffna cities while financial support from AFD for interventions in Anuradhapura city. Dambulla, Ratnapura and Kurunegala will be financially assisted by Asian Development Bank (ADB) as second phase.
