Suzhou Industrial Park Institute of Vocational Technology (hereinafter called “IVT”) is a higher vocational institute initiated by Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and approved by Jiangsu Provincial Government.
Since its foundation in December, 1997, by drawing on the experience of vocational education from Singapore, Germany and other developed countries and aiming at “training today's students with tomorrow's technology to serve the future”, IVT has constituted a brand-new pattern of vocational education featuring a pro-business mindset, an intensive operation system, a module-based training mode, flexible management, and international cooperation.
In March, 2001, IVT was granted by the Ministry of Education as “National Demonstration Unit for Training Teachers from Vocational Schools”.
In October, 2001, IVT was granted “the Jiangsu Provincial Base for Training Teachers from Secondary Vocational Schools” by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.
In December, 2003, IVT succeeded in winning the certification of ISO9001.
In 2005, IVT was approved the base of “UNESCO-BJTU Chair on Cooperation between Higher Engineering Education and Industries”.
Visitors to IVT in recent years include Chinese government leaders and officials, such as Jiang Zemin, Li Ruihuan, Li Lanqing, Wu Bangguo, Chen Zhili, Zhou Ji and Singaporean Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who all highly praised and fully acclaimed IVT's new teaching mode.
IVT is composed of three campuses:
The Headquarters Campus: Founded in 1998, it is located at Suqian Road in the core area of SIP neighboring MNCs such as Hitachi , Solectron, Loreal, and Auchan. Now it is the administration center of the institute as well as the home to Departments of Mechatronics, Precision Engineering, Arts, General Courses and Continuing Education.
The North Campus: Founded in May 2004, it is located in the SIP Loufeng Hi-Tech Industrial Zone, and contains the Departments of Electronic Engineering and Information Engineering.
The South Campus: Founded in April 2006, it is located in SIP Dushu Lake Higher Education District as the home to the Departments of Business Management, Foreign Languages and Architectural Engineering.
