About

Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) is a development organization. Through its work from grassroots to policy- level action in Health, Education and community development SVYM endeavours to facilitate community’s efforts towards self –reliance and empowerment and develop local, innovative and cost effective solutions to sustain community driven progress.


Having started operations in 1984, SVYM’s activities are deeply rooted in the core values of satya, Ahimsa, Seva and Tyaga. With the vision of a caring and equitable society, free of deprivation and strife SVYM’s key focus areas within health include - tribal and rural health, ayurveda (the Indian system of medicine), reproductive and child health, hygiene and sanitation, care and control of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and blindness.
The institution-based services under health are provided through the Vivekananda Memorial Hospitals (VMH) at Saragur and Kenchanahalli. VMH – Saragur is a 90-bed facility offering multi-specialty secondary care at an affordable cost to the rural and tribal populace. It is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore and offers the India’s first post-graduate fellowship course in HIV medicine for medical and dental professionals.


Besides Health SVYM’s other areas of work are Education, Social and economic empowerment and TRACS(training, research, advocacy and consultancy services).
