Swedfund, Sweden’s Development Finance Institution (DFI), contributes to poverty reduction through viable and sustainable businesses in low and middle income countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Swedfund was founded in 1979 and is owned by the Swedish government.
Swedfund is a responsible, long-term investor which cooperates with strategic partners, Swedish or international, that are looking to start up or expand their business in one of the countries in which we operate. Swedfund’s main focus is on direct equity investments; however the company also offers loan financing.
Through Swedpartnership Swedfund offers financial support to small and medium-sized Swedish enterprises for investment in knowledge transfer and equipment. The project must be based on long-term commercial cooperation between the Swedish enterprise and a company in the target country. The financial support is given as a loan that can be converted into a grant when the project has been completed according to plan.
Swedfund’s head office is located in Stockholm, and it holds a regional office in Nairobi, Kenya.
Today we have a staff of 37. Our membership in EDFI – in combination with intensive networking with businesses, organisations and authorities – enables us to offer knowledge and experience of the entire investment cycle.
