Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX) is the first commodity exchange in Tanzania. The exchange is established to help farmers, traders, exporters and other various market actors access domestic and global market and obtain a fair price in selling or buying of commodities.

TMX will be the most appropriate channel through which the free marketing of commodities can occur in a liberalized environment, consistent with global market developments. As the first commodity exchange in Tanzania, TMX is expected to revolutionize the agricultural sector by providing reliable markets for agricultural produce, effectively boosting production and enabling the agricultural sector to improve rural livelihoods, contribute to economic growth as well as create employment opportunities.

TMX will achieve its main objective when a Tanzanian farmer is able to choose his cropping pattern based on spot and futures prices disseminated by the Exchange, rather than the practice of sowing a crop based on current prices. Once the Exchange starts trading futures contracts, it will help producers, processors, export and import companies minimize risk, providing a hedging platform.

TMX creates trust and transparency through aggressive market data dissemination to all market actors, through clearly defined trading rules, implementation of the best quality standards of warehousing, payments and delivery and business conduct, and through an internal dispute settlement mechanism. TMX provides market integrity at three important levels: the integrity of the product itself, the integrity of the transaction, and the integrity of the market actors.

TMX will establish reliable, time tested and transparent trading platform. TMX will provide screen-based trading and hence it will be possible for one to place trades on the platform without visiting the Exchange.
