The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation, (TASAC ) was established in accordance with the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Act Chapter 415 and began to carry out its official duties from February 23, 2018 following Government Announcement No. 53 dated 16 February, 2018. The responsibilities of the Corporation are to manage and control the water transport sector, to facilitate the water transport business and to do ship agency business.
The main foundations of the establishment of the Organization are to be responsible to the Nation and to the stakeholders in exercising the powers and responsibilities that are under the responsibility of the Organization; Be a role model in the conduct of working with honesty and integrity in all activities; Using an approach that demonstrates expertise in professionalism, conduct, attitude and behavior; Impartiality in serving customers, service providers and other stakeholders by providing services without bias or discrimination; Be transparent in all activities and be ready to receive public opinion.
TASAC provides professional services and ensures customers get the best and timely service. The services provided by TASAC are Shipping Business, Maritime Safety, Vessel Registration and Financial Control. The Agency's three main statutory functions are to Improve Shipping Services; Improving the safety of Water transport, Safety and Protection and Care of the Sea and Lake Environment as well as Ship business Services.
The headquarters of TASAC is located in Dar es Salaam and other offices are located in the regions of Mwanza, Tanga, Kigoma, Rukwa, Mtwara, Geita, Kagera, Mara, Lindi, Mbeya-Kyela and Mwanza-Ukerewe. TASAC also has border offices located in the regions of Kilimanjaro (Holili), Kagera (Mutukula), Mbeya (Itungi & Kiwira), Rukwa (Kasanga & Kipili), Tunduma, Katavi (Kalema), Mbambabay, Horohoro, Namanga, Kilwa and Sirari ( Times).
