The Tax Authority was created by Law 1/2006, published in BR - I Series Number 12, of 22 March 2006. It started its activities on 20 November 2006.

The Tax Authority of Mozambique (TA) is a State body created by Law No. 1/06 of 22 March and its fundamental tasks, pursuant to Article 4 (3) of the aforementioned statute, ( i) implement tax and customs policy, directing and controlling and controlling the operation of its services, (ii) plan and control its activities and information systems, (iii) train and qualify human resources and (iv) prepare studies and support in the design of tax and customs policies.
