Tearfund

Tearfund is a Christian international aid and development agency working globally to end poverty and injustice, and to restore dignity and hope in some of the world’s poorest communities. Tearfund operates in more than fifty countries around the world. As well as being present in disaster situations and recovery through our response teams, they speak out on behalf of poor people on the national and international stage by petitioning governments, campaigning for justice and raising the profile of key poverty issues wherever they can. They work tirelessly to help communities around the world escape the very worst effects of poverty and disaster. And they believe that the same people facing these troubles, also have the best idea as to how they can overcome them. Tearfund listens: helping people to rise out of their poverty, utilising their resourcefulness and determination. Tearfund works alongside local churches and other locally-based organisations to help realise these plans for a better future. WHAT THEY CARE ABOUT: THE GREATEST NEED - Poor communities - Marginalised groups - Vulnerable adults - Children LASTING LOCAL CHANGE - The local church - Gender and relationships - Education GLOBAL ISSUES - Conflict - Disasters - Climate change LIFE'S ESSENTIALS - Hunger - Clean water and toilets HOW THEY WORK SPIRITUAL PASSION They’re Christians committed to following Jesus where the need is greatest. God has called them to serve those living in poverty, regardless of race, gender, nationality or religious belief. They know the gospel has the power to transform lives and heal communities, they see this truth in their work every day. God isn’t giving up on the poor, neither are they. PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE They know that their work is too important not to do it well. They’re committed to professionalism and are recognised for their expertise in relief, development and advocacy. They’re signatories to the Red Cross Code of Conduct and are certified against the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership Standard. That way, they’re always accountable for the work they do.
