About

Terna is a company of Italian excellence with over 4,000 professionals working day in and day out to keep the national electricity system secure. Terna handles planning, development and maintenance of the Grid in line with international best practices, bringing together skills, technology and innovation.

Through its subsidiary Terna Rete Italia, the company manages the National Transmission Grid and is responsible for power transmission and dispatching 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is therefore responsible for ensuring a secure balance between Italian power supply and demand. It also provides public concession services and guarantees long-term security, quality and cost-effectiveness. It ensures equal conditions of access for all grid users.

The Group also looks to develop new businesses to seize the opportunities arising from an era of radical transformation within the electricity industry, characterised by substantial changes such as the growth of renewable sources, new demands including a greater focus on energy efficiency, and technological developments such as grid digitalisation and storage systems. Terna intends to take a leading role in sustainable energy transition, using distinctive innovations, capabilities and technology to benefit all stakeholders.

With over 72,900 Km of HV lines Terna represents an Europe’s leading independent operator in terms of kilometers of electricity lines managed.
