TerraClear (formerly known as Lao Water Resources) began consulting work for the water and sanitation needs of Laos in 2005. After several successful projects, an ambitious charter outlined the manufacture and distribution of ceramic water filters. The name TerraClear identifies this new direction as well as the establishment of a production facility in Pakse, Champasak and marketing headquarters in Tha Kaek, Khammouan.

TerraClear provides clean drinking water and market-based innovations for families of Lao PDR.

 

Where we work

We work in the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic. Our ceramic water filter production plant in Champasak province and our current sales pilot project target area is in Khammuan province. As the project develops, we expect to expand to the remainder of Southern and central Laos and in phase three move nationwide.

 

What we do

Filters are disseminated through commercial sales, and through our hygiene and sanitation education program (WASH).

The WASH program is key in reaching elementary and secondary school children, their teachers and administrators with the message of clean water and proper hygiene and sanitation. As part of the training sample filters are promoted and at each school two seed filters are given. The WASH program has a similar focus on adult villagers with a similar seed filter aspect. 

In the first half of 2010 alone, LWR’s WASH program trained over 4000 students, 160 teachers, and over 700 villagers in proper hygiene and sanitation practices in the village program.

Seed filters in conjunction with commercial sales are impacting at risk families, communities, and schools by providing an improved and stable access to safe drinking water.

Ceramic filters provide protection against bacteriological contamination and are critical in reducing water-borne disease. The LWR ceramic silver water filter effectively removes bacterial contamination from source water at a fraction of the cost of other filters.

Using high quality ceramic construction along with two-container design not only removes dangerous pathogens from untreated water but also safely stores the filtered water. Our ceramic filters are coated with silver to increase effectiveness against E. coli and other bacteria. All filters we produce are quality tested by our in house water quality laboratory before sale.
