Established in 2001, the African Centre for Women, Information and Communications Technology (ACWICT) is a Kenya-based ICT for Development Organization, whose mission is to promote women and youth access to and knowledge of ICTs as tools for social, economic and political advancement.
ACWICT works to address challenges faced by high potential but disadvantaged women and youth in Kenya, providing solutions to improve their access to employment, education, health and leadership for better livelihoods
ACWICT achieves this by:
- Advocating for gender-responsive ICT policies, laws, and regulations;
- Building capacities of women and youth to fully participate in the global information age and economy by training them in digital skills, soft skills for communication and employment opportunities to transform their lives.
- Developing and training women and youth in ICT and vocational skills and linking them to employment opportunities to improve their livelihoods
- Linking and connecting young women and youth beneficiaries of ICT4D to fiscal and technical resources.
- Mentoring them to be resilient and advocate for their rights and privileges
- Building capacities of beneficiaries in reproductive health education and knowledge
- Encouraging adolescent young girls in high schools to take up and pursue STEM and computer science related careers
ACWICT’s programs are based on public/private sector partnerships, a strategic alliance that combines the resources and strengths of the government, private sector, foundations and non-profit organizations to achieve its goals and objectives.
ACWICT’s core competency is in deliberate creation of innovations in employability programs that target women and youth, harnessing the power of ICTs to deliver to five key sectors of the economy namely employability, education, health, agriculture and governance. They pride in WHAT WORKS!
