The Engine Room helps activists, organisations, and other social change agents make the most of data and technology to increase their impact.
They are a non-profit organisation themselves, and their international team is made up of experienced and committed practitioners. Since 2011, they have supported more than 200 organisations, big and small, from every corner of the globe.
Technology and data have the potential to dramatically accelerate the impact of any group or organisation that promotes equality, justice, human rights, good governance, and accountability.
They aim to:
- It’s unnecessary and unrealistic for every organisation to have an in-house technical capacity. But they believe everyone should have the capacity to consider and manage their own strategies.
- They directly support you in building a strategic understanding of data and technology and can also complete special high-impact projects.
- They convene people in communities that harness emerging ideas and connect you with leading practitioners through online and offline events.
- They share their research about the latest tools and methods as a contribution to the global conversation about how to work for social change in the digital age.
As an organisation they are structured to be responsive, agile, and global. All their support is driven by demand, meaning they apply their expertise to real-world challenges rather than prescribing off-the-shelf solutions.
Because they are not tied to a particular social change sector, they bring new perspectives and ideas to every project. They pride themselves on smart, original, and effective solutions that deliver a big impact.
