The Governance and Public Policy Research Center (GPRC) is a regional non-profit think tank established in 2012 based in Kampala, Uganda with regional and international associates. GPRC is a non-partisan, independent agency that aims at providing high quality research, analysis and advice,  on key public issues in the areas of governance, access to justice, human rights, democratization, conflict prevention, post conflict recovery, peace building and institutional reform.

GPRC was born out of the realization that Uganda, its immediate neighbors as well as several others African countries are coming of age and going through many levels of transition from autocratic spaces to more democratic eco-systems. As would be expected, this transition has necessitated and will continue to require a rapid birth and rebirth of several public policy reforms at, international, regional, national and sub national levels.

 To be effective, robust and grounded, these public policy reforms will need to be informed by credible, high quality, appropriate and independent home-led research.

GPRC was set up to fill this gap and support this very important transition process in a variety of ways including research, debate, and publications and by linking up with similar outfits all over the globe.

The GPRC bold vision is to become one of the leading policy think tanks in the African region.

GPRC believes that its work will help shape and guide various public policy agendas by providing ground breaking empirical, homegrown thinking and tailor made solutions. GPRC will also seek to compliment its local capabilities by building strategic partnerships with similar institutions in the country, on the continent and in the developed world. GPRC’s vision is therefore premised on the notion that Africa’s solutions should come from within Africa but should be informed by empirical high quality independent research and thinking.

The founders of GPRC are three passionate individuals and with a combined wealth of experience spanning over 30 years in the key public policy areas of governance, diplomacy, access to justice, democratization and conflict resolution.
