The Law & Development Partnership Limited was set up in 2000 to provide advice and assitance to developing countries in the areas of legal, regulatory and institutional refrom, governance and development.
Particular areas of expertise are commercial justice, better regulation, enabling environment, and the development of justice/legal sector-wide reform programmes. Its 2 directors, Clare Manuel and Richard Hooper have between them nearly 20 years experience in development - particularly in Africa, where they have both worked as long-term advisers.
The company has a number of local associates in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Assignments over the last 18 months include - - development of an enabling environment programme for the Government of Tanzania (funded by the UK, Holland and Sweden) - major commercial justice study in Kenya (funded by DFID) - baseline survey of private sector for Uganda's commercial justice reform programme - consultancies on commercial justice and legal sector reform in Uganda.
