The National Security College (NSC) is a specialist graduate studies school, offering academic programs and professional courses aimed at enhancing the functioning of the national security community. They strengthen networks of cooperation between practitioners and non-government experts, contribute to the development of a new generation of strategic analysts and provide outreach to business and the wider community. The NSC is proud to further enhance the role of The Australian National University (ANU) as a strategic endowment for the nation.
As a specialist school within ANU, the NSC delivers a graduate program that provides an in depth, multi-disciplinary understanding of the security challenges that face countries in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. The NSC also offers unique executive development programs which focus on applied national security policymaking. In executive and professional development, their specialised teaching methodology exposes participants to the contest of ideas and challenges them to develop their thinking about national security issues.
The National Security College was announced as a joint venture between the Commonwealth Government and ANU by former Prime Minister The Hon. Kevin Rudd and former Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Chubb in December 2009. After its launch by the Prime Minister in April 2010, the NSC delivered the first executive development course in June 2010.
The NSC is pleased to publish its updated Strategic Plan for 2016-18, which explains their governance, functions, outcomes and performance measures for this period.
