The Power of Nutrition

The Power of Nutrition, a new independent fund, will help millions of children reach their full potential. Backed by leading organisations from private philanthropy and international development, the partnership aims to unlock one billion dollars to tackle child undernutrition in some of the world’s poorest countries.  The Power of Nutrition will save lives and help millions of children escape from the effects of malnutrition. It will help countries build healthy and prosperous communities. It launches with arrangements in place to unlock the first $200 million from high profile backers such as the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, UBS Optimus Foundation, the UK’s Department for International Development, UNICEF, and the World Bank Group. It opens to new private and public investors. THE MISSION Unleash the power of nutrition Investing in the nutrition of children has the power to trigger huge social and economic changes in countries. With the right nutrients and care early on in life, a child’s brain and body are able to grow to their full potential. Children who are more developed have better life chances: they live longer and healthier lives, they do better in school, they grow into more productive adults prepared to boost a country’s economic development, and they pass good practices on to future generations. It is an investment in people that lasts and lasts. THE FUND Investing for impact They are a partnership of like-minded investors and implementers committed to helping children grow to their full potential, ending the cycle of undernutrition, and enabling countries to build strong and prosperous communities. They are working together to unlock $1 billion in new financing to accelerate the fight against child undernutrition faster and on a scale that few can achieve alone. THE STRUCTURE Multiplying money The Power of Nutrition multiplies contributions from each new investor by 4x – guaranteed. The full amount is directed to nutrition interventions on the ground – not to overheads or operating expenses. THE RESULTS Maximising lives By multiplying financing for a specific set of interventions that deliver high-quality nutrition supplements, services and education and investing it in geographic hotspots, they are playing a vital role in improving the health, education, and life possibilities of children – maximising lives for generations to come. APPROACH The Power of Nutrition multiplies new financing for critical, basic nutrition supplements, services and education and works through best-in-class implementing partners to deliver results on the ground. The first implementing partners are UNICEF and the World Bank. Turning investment intimpact. LIKE-MINDED INVESTORS They are a partnership of investors and implementers committed to helping children grow to their full potential, ending the cycle of undernutrition, and enabling countries to build strong and prosperous communities.  The partnership is open to new private and public investors interested in funding large-scale, high impact programmes in some of the countries that are worst affected by undernutrition. MULTIPLYING IMPACT By working through some of the most influential and effective partners on the ground, and focusing the resources on the worst-affected countries, they will deliver results on a scale that few can achieve alone. The programmes they support will prepare millions of children to fight disease, benefit from education, and escape poverty – creating positive change that stretches far into the future. BUILT FOR BUSINESS A relentless focus on results A small Executive Team based in London will monitor the programmes they support very closely so that the impact of each investment is clear, and report back to investors twice each year. The entire process will be overseen by their Board of Trustees.
