About

Mission

The Tepper Foundation supports organizations working on the frontlines to expand opportunity — from promoting food and housing security to protecting fundamental rights. By collaborating closely with grantee partners, the Foundation identifies community needs and strives to address them. It is also responsive to moments of urgent need, swiftly deploying resources in the wake of unforeseen crises and natural disasters through a nimble and flexible approach to giving.

History

The Tepper Foundation was established in 1996 by David Tepper, grounded in his vision that everyone should have equal opportunity to succeed. Formerly known as the David A. Tepper Charitable Foundation, its original focus ranged from improving education quality for children to addressing hunger within local communities.

Today, The Tepper Foundation supports organizations in New Jersey and across the United States that work on the frontlines of protecting and expanding opportunity for all. Its efforts span six key portfolios: Food, Housing & Health; Community Impact; Crisis Response & Climate Resilience; Pro-Democracy & Anti-Hate Initiatives; Strengthening the Nonprofit Sector; and additional Board Initiatives.

The Foundation’s work is rooted in a commitment to helping families achieve economic prosperity and stability. Its approach includes direct investment in nonprofits, strengthening the resiliency of networks, and fostering deeper community ties. These strong connections enable the Foundation to respond rapidly during times of crisis or unexpected need, while investments empower grantees to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Striving toward a society where access to essential resources, services, and opportunities is not determined by identity or background, The Tepper Foundation believes philanthropy is most effective when carried out collaboratively. By building trust and maintaining deep relationships with grantees, the Foundation remains flexible and responsive, enabling it to identify and meet community needs with agility.
