Millicom Ghana Limited (Tigo) is a mobile telecommunication services provider, which was established in Ghana in 1991, as one of the subsidiaries of Millicom International Cellular SA based in Luxembourg. MIC has 13 operations in emerging markets of Africa and Latin America.
Millicom Ghana started operating a mobile cellular network on the ETACS Analogue System with the brand name Mobitel. Mobitel then had over 27,000 subscribers who used their mobile phones and other auxiliary equipment in mainly the regional capitals of Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Sekondi-Takoradi and Tamale.
Mobitel then offered two basic services namely;
Mobitel was later rebranded Buzz GSM in 2003, when Millicom Ghana migrated from Analogue to the GSM platform. In 2006, the brand became Tigo, to reflect the standard brand name across the Millicom group.

In May 2009, we reached the 3 million-subscriber mark in Ghana. Our brand has exhibited strength in the areas of product innovation and network quality. Products such as Tigo Number 1, Smartalk and Xtreme have built a value-for-money image for our brand in recent times.
