About

Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology was born on October 1, 2003 as the result of a merger of Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine and Tokyo University of Fisheries. Since April 1, 2004, as the National University Corporation Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, they have worked on reforming themselves while promoting linkage among education, research and the community to become "a unique university with a competitive environment".

To implement basic and applied education and research related to marine studies and science technologies to facilitate sustainable development of human society.

Development of human resources and objectives of the university

They, the only marine university in Japan, should become the educational and research center to "understand, protect and leverage the sea" to carry out their mission so that their country can develop as a maritime nation and contribute to international society. From this basic viewpoint, they implement comprehensive education and research focusing on training advanced professionals including researchers and foster people with the knowledge and skills described below.

  1. Ability to deepen scientific recognition of oceans, and propose and implement preferable measures to leverage the natural environment.
  2. Ability to act with logical thinking, good judgment and responsibility for society.
