Tsinghua University Education Foundation (TUEF), founded in 1994, is a national non-public foundation established with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. It is the first university education foundation established after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In December 2019, it was again rated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China as an “AAAAA Social Organization”, which is the highest certification of foundations granted by the country.

The purpose of TUEF is to promote the development of educational cause of Tsinghua University, improve educational quality and academic level, strengthen the relation between the university and society, and strive for supports and donations from domestic and foreign organizations and individuals. TUEF accepts the voluntary donations of domestic and foreign enterprises, social organizations and individuals.

TUEF is committed to giving powerful support to the development of Tsinghua University and actively collecting various social resources. The fund of TUEF is mainly used to support talent cultivation, teaching, scientific research, building of a teachers’ team and campus infrastructure construction of Tsinghua University and carry out public service for the society by giving play to the overall advantage of Tsinghua University in science, technology and talents. The donations to specific programs may be used directionally according to the wishes of the donors.

TUEF has been continuously improving in fund raising, program management, assets management and team building, etc., after 26 years’ exploration and development since its establishment in 1994. It enjoys increasing social reputation and brand image and ranks among the top university foundations in mainland China. TUEF has proposed for and hosted “Annual Conference of China University Foundation”, initiated and established “the Education Fund Research Society of Chinese Association of Higher Education” and become a directorial unit of the Society, playing an active role in promoting the steady development of the university education foundations as well as the reform and development of Chinese higher education and charity.

Tsinghua University also initiated and established Tsinghua Education Foundation (North American), Inc. in 1998 and Tsinghua University Education Foundation (HKSAR) Limited in 2003.
