Tunisia is the second country in the world to value a large percentage of its phosphate rock production (85%). GCT processes approximately 6.5 million tonnes of Tunisian rock phosphate each year to produce Merchant Phosphoric Acid (MGA), Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) and Calcium Phosphate (DCP) ).
In addition, GCT produces Agricultural Ammonium Nitrate and Porous Ammonium Nitrate intended primarily for the local market.
The GCT has 4 production sites spread over 4 regions of southern Tunisia:
The GCT employs more than 6500 people, its mission is defined as follows:
HISTORY
The history of the GCT goes back to 1947, with the establishment of the SIAPE (Industrial Company of Phosphoric Acid and Fertilizers) located in Sfax, and the start in 1952 of the production of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP).
SIAPE thus added value to Tunisian phosphate extracted by the Gafsa Phosphate Company (GPC).
The consolidation of the phosphate industry in Tunisia took place as a result of:
We also expanded our subsidiaries in high-growth countries, with the creation in 1985 of SACF in China and CIL in India in 2003 to consolidate our position in the global market.
In 2006, a Phosacid joint venture was formed under the name of Tunisian Indian Fertilizers (TIFERT), whose objective is to build a phosphoric acid plant in Skhira near the existing GCT plant.
The GCT is also investing in a new TSP project in Tunisia (Gafsa region) with a capacity of 500,000 tons / year (M'dhilla 2), which should be operational in 2017.
GCT VISION
The GCT is known in the international market for the profitable and responsible recovery of phosphates, thus ensuring the sustainability of the sector and ensuring the desired profitability for all stakeholders.
