Key Qualifications of the team:
Experienced trade and industrial policy expert having worked in the public, private and academic sectors at multilateral and regional levels. Diplomat for New Zealand for 10 years, posted in New York and Geneva where participating in United Nations (human rights and development), World Trade Organisation and International Labour Organisation negotiations. Involved in economic policy development and trade negotiations on behalf of the private sector and as a recognised expert. Coordinated public-private sector engagements on a wide range of economic policy and trade promotion issues in Southern Africa. Holds a Masters degree in Public Policy Management and is currently undertaking course work for a PhD
Expertise in managing complex multi-national programmes aimed at enabling collaboration between regional governments, multilateral institutions and the private sector. Extensive experience in the fields of political risk, international investment and trade facilitation.
Undertakes research and analysis on a range of issues with which Tutwa is involved. In recent years, responsible for a section of the 2014 Business Climate Survey on EU Trade and Investment in South Africa; assisted in research on a chapter for an Edward Elgar publication on African services trade negotiations; and co-authored a policy brief on US-Africa relations post the 2014 US-Africa Leaders’ Summit. Since becoming a full-time researcher at Tutwa Consulting he has conducted a comparative study on the EU-EPAs with Africa for COMSEC, worked on a project to develop an Africa-international relations strategy for the Gauteng provincial Government, conducted an economic analysis on Namibia for a project with the UNCTAD, and performed an M&E with MSI for the USAID SATH and the TFA in Southern Africa
With responsibility for leading the World Bank Group’s support to African countries seeking to improve their investment climate and attract new investment. He supervised a team of 45 implementing both advisory and investment projects across in all 49 countries of sub-Saharan Africa both during the exciting period of African Renaissance in the first decade of this century, and during the more difficult post Great Recession period, when sub-Saharan Africa continued to reform its economies and welcome new investors
