About

The Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB) was established in 1957 by the Church of the Province of Uganda and the Seventh day Adventist Uganda Union (SDAUU) as a Charitable and Technical National umbrella organization, for Health Facilities affiliated to Protestant Churches in Uganda. As a Legal entity UPMB coordinates its Member health facilities (MHFs) and serves as a liaison between the MHFs and the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health and Partners/Donors.

UPMB is headquartered at its Secretariat which is governed and managed as a Corporate body by persons of impeccable Integrity who practice Good Corporate Governance through its Board of Trustees, Board of Directors and Board Technical Committees and an Executive Management Team headed by the Executive Director. Good corporate practices at UPMB may be confirmed through the recent recognition of ‘UPMB as Winner of the Inaugural Grant Thornton Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda (ICGU) Awards-Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) in Uganda year 2018’.

UPMB currently has a Network of 294 faith based private not for profit health facilities (including Hospitals, Health Facilities and 15 Health Training Institutions) spanning over five decades of experience in serving vulnerable communities in Uganda with a common goal of providing preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative affordable, good quality health care to Ugandans regardless of ethnicity and religious creed. Their presence is strong in rural areas reaching the most marginalized and vulnerable groups of society.

Accessibility to drugs and medical supplies for member Facilities is ensured through the Joint Medical Store (JMS), founded and owned jointly by Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB) and Uganda Catholic Medical bureau (UCMB).

  6. Time Management: UPMB cherishes time in health service delivery and believes in managing time effectively so that the right time is allocated to the right activity but more importantly serving their clients on time.
