United Action for Children(UAC) was founded in 1996 and registered in 1998 under the Cameroon’s 1990 law on Associations (registration No. 557/G37/014/1/VO4/T/T/OAPP of 3rd August 1998) as a non-profit community based organisation. Its engaged in Building Little Minds for a Big Future. Their activities are organised under the following main programme areas namely: Elementary education, Vocational training, Sports, Poverty alleviation; Food Security and Nutritional practices; Capacity Building and Training, Environmentalsustainability.
UAC is dedicated to help children, families and groups awaken to their needs and ability to change and put this change to practical use through a participatory, partnership approach and multiplier effect.
UAC has its head office in Buea and a field office in Mamfe. During the past ten years, UAC has implemented community development activities in Buea and Mamfe and has through these activities developed new thinking and practice in participatory community action and community mobilization. All activities have strong links to alleviate the suffering of individuals and families in the poorest communities through grassroots sustainable initiatives aimed at particularly local empowerment, poverty alleviation and environmental sustainability at a community-level. All their activities are action-based and have strong focus on achieving leading local participation, sustained learning benefits and replication of local success stories.
UAC is governed by a General Assembly through a Board of Directors, Head Office in Buea and Field office in Mamfe. The General Assembly meets once a year while the Board meets twice a year but could meet in emergency sessions. The Head office and Field office staff meet quarterly for planning meetings. Their office is team managed and the management team consists of a Manager, a Field Office Manager, a finance officer and office assistants among other staff.
The Organization’s growth and activities are shaped by the following objectives:
-To offer a secured and stable environment for children and young people.
-To enable/motivate parents and teachers take an active role in child development.
-To help rectify problems existing in the local educational system.
-To address the issue of school dropout and failure.
-Contribute to the eradication of poverty through quality and functional education.
-To introduce an alternative approach to education in Cameroon.
-To offer quality and affordable nursery and primary education to orphans and vulnerable children.
-To prevent rural exodus by building a strong community.
-Use Sports to mobilize children and young people channel their energy towards productive initiatives
