About

The United Nations System in Côte d'Ivoire, placed under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator of UNS Operational Activities, is made up of Agencies, Funds, Programs and Specialized Institutions.

These agencies work in synergy within the framework of the reform of the United Nations System (UNS), initiated since 1997 and whose objective is to strengthen the complementarity and synergies between the various Agencies of the United Nations System. It is in this vision that particular emphasis is placed on strengthening the coherence, effectiveness and impact of the operational activities of the United Nations in the field and that the United Nations Framework Plan for Aid for the Development of Côte d'Ivoire (UNDAF) is implemented. The UNDAF is the response given by the UNS to the development priorities of Côte d'Ivoire.

Côte d'Ivoire has drawn up the National Development Plan (2012-2015) to respond to the many development challenges arising from the post-election crisis of October 2010 and a decade of socio-political crisis. This plan is the frame of reference for all the interventions of the development partners. It is within this framework that the United Nations System, in agreement with the Government, conducted the revision of its Framework Plan for Development Assistance (UNDAF), with a view to aligning it with development priorities such as defined in the PND. The UNDAF2013-2015) translates the results that all the agencies of the United Nations system in Côte d'Ivoire are committed to achieving, including some non-resident agencies. The UNS is committed, in agreement with the Ivorian Government, to move towards the implementation of the DaO from 2016.

The strategic priorities of UNDAF 2013-2015 are:

  • By 2015, national and local institutions, civil society, the private sector and communities exercise better political, administrative, economic and security governance.
  • By 2015, vulnerable populations and groups, in particular women, young people, displaced persons, ex-combatants have improved incomes and food security, and live in a healthy and sustainable environment.
  • By 2015, vulnerable populations, in particular women and children, will benefit equitably from quality basic social services and social protection (education, health, HIV/AIDS, social actions, sanitation and drinking water).
