About

Established in the DRC since 1976, the UNDP works for the human and sustainable development of the country. We help the DRC develop and implement solutions for:

  • Sustainable development and inclusive growth:
  • Stimulate employment, economic progress and the inclusion of the most marginalized populations.
  • Democratic governance and peacebuilding:
  • Support the establishment of the rule of law and fight against impunity; make the institutional framework and civic structures more effective in order to promote human rights, justice and development in the DRC.
  • Protection of natural resources and the fight against climate change: Support the Congolese State to improve the management of its natural resources, the mechanisms for managing disasters and to fight against climate change. Stimulate the development of the green economy

Impact

The UNDP carries out concrete actions aimed at addressing the challenges of poverty, good governance, socio-political stability and sustainable development.

Some results that have been achieved with UNDP support:

  • From 2014 to 2017, 896 SGBV cases referred to court resulted in a court decision. Between 2013 and 2015, an annual reduction of 33% in the rate of sexual violence linked to armed conflicts against women and girls in the East.
  • In 2017, the technical and logistical assistance provided by the UNDP to the prosecutor's offices and military courts in the provinces of Ituri, Ex Katanga, North and South Kivu, enabled the prosecution of 65% of cases of international crimes.
  • In 2017, community recovery, 467 vulnerable and marginalized girls in post-conflict areas were trained in trades and benefited from socio-professional reintegration kits. This allowed them to contribute to the creation of 1549 decent jobs for the benefit of other women.
  • 1/2 million households trained in sustainable agricultural techniques and benefit from improved seeds as part of initiatives relating to the National Adaptation Program - Support for the Agricultural Sector and the small grants program
  • Socio-community reintegration of 1,734 children formerly associated with armed forces and groups, mainly in eastern DRC.
