Universidad Autonoma Baja California Sur (Autonomous University of Baja California Sur)
The UABCS was created following the initiative of the law sent to the H. State Congress, on December 26, 1975, Mr. Angel César Mendoza Arámburo, First Constitutional Governor of the Entity.
On February 2, 1976, Arch. Tomás Balarezo Cota, is elected First Rector of the University, by the H. Constituent University Council. A few months later, on March 15, 1976, the UABCS began its academic activity with a first semester or common interdivisional trunk, composed of four groups with a total of 220 students and four teachers. The Institution was provisionally located at the Federal Primary School "18 de Marzo".
On August 12 of the same year, Mr. Luis Echeverría Alvarez, then Constitutional President of the Republic, placed the first stone of the first building of the University.
On September 20, the divisional trunks of Biological Sciences were constituted, with two academic groups; and Social Sciences, one. An academic department was created in each division, which designed the careers provided by the UABCS: Agronomy, Zootechnics, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Marine Biology, Fisheries Engineering and Marine Geology.

"The Autonomous University of Baja California Sur stands out in the northwest region for the high quality and relevance of its teaching, research, cultural diffusion and linkage programs, through an educational, academic and avant-garde management model. It is characterized by its social and environmental responsibility, the strength and internationalization of its educational programs offered in its university network, the impact of the professional exercise of its graduates and its contributions to the sustainable development of the entity and the country.See more
