About

It was founded on March 19, 1835, in order to promote the development of culture in the nascent city of Chihuahua, offered to the community studies of Latinity and Castilian grammar. In its beginning it had 21 students, between the years 1835 and 1900 about 996 people received education in their classrooms.

The demand of education in the State was growing, in such a way that many students had to leave the entity to the Cd. Of Mexico to carry out their studies and a large number of them stayed in that city, for this reason the State lost important personalities with it.

Creation of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua

From the demand of the school population for wide and sufficient spaces to be educated, on December 8, 1954 and as Governor of the State Oscar Soto Maynez, the State Congress issued decree 171 with which the University of Chihuahua was established by what the Scientific and Literary Institute of Chihuahua became the university of the same name being its first Rector Dr. Ignacio González Estavillo. In the year of 1968, the university acquires its autonomy and becomes the Autonomous University of Chihuahua.

Initially they had the schools of Medicine, Law, Physical Education, Pharmacy and Engineering. In 1956 the Livestock School was founded, which later became the Faculty of Zootechnics and Ecology. In 1958 the School of Accounting and Administration was created, later Faculty of Accounting and Administration. In 1960, the central library was founded with a collection of 2,353 volumes. In 1963, the School of Philosophy, Literature and Journalism was founded, which changed its name to the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature. In 1967 the School of Agronomy was founded, which would become the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. In 1968 the School of Public Administration and Political Sciences was born, transformed into the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences a few years later. In 1974 he began the career of Engineer Fruticultor,

On May 12, 1978, the construction of the university gymnasium began and it was inaugurated on October 2, 1980. Architectural work built entirely by engineers graduated from the UACH. In 1991, the School of Dentistry and the School of International Economics located in the city of Hidalgo del Parral, Chih.

The building occupied by the Scientific and Literary Institute is the one now used by the Rectory of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua.

Autonomous University of Chihuahua

The Autonomous University of Chihuahua (UACH), is the highest house of studies of the largest state of the Mexican Republic, considered one of the institutions of higher education within the best ranking at the national level and impact on 11 municipalities of the entity.

The 15 faculties that make up the UACH offer a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that cover all areas of knowledge and human development. Since its foundation in 1835 as the Scientific and Literary Institute of Chihuahua, which over the years and the great demand for education in the state, on December 8, 1954 is created, by the decree of 171 of the state congress and being governor of the state Lic.
