About

The origin of the National Agrarian University goes back to 1901, during the government of President Eduardo López de Romaña, when the National School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (ENAV) was planned and organized based on the studies of a Belgian Mission contracted by the government Peruvian who arrived in Peru in July of that year, composed of Engineers Jorge Vanderghem, Enrique Van Hoorde, Victor Marie and Juan Michel, as well as Veterinarian Arturo Declerck.

The official inauguration was on July 22, 1902, as a dependency of the Development Department, being Minister of the branch Mr. Eugenio Larrabure Unanue. In 1912 the Central Agronomic Station was created with the aim of developing agricultural experimentation and serving farmers. Thus, before reaching its fifteenth anniversary, the School was already an entity that applied the three fundamental purposes of the University: teaching, research and extension.

The first place assigned to the School was a pavilion of the Santa Beatriz farm, where it worked for 30 years. In 1933 he moved to the farm of La Molina, in the Valley of Ate, staying there to date. The Organic Law of Public Education of 1941 granted the School the status of an institution of higher education and enshrined its pedagogical, administrative and economic autonomy.

In 1960, the University Law 13417 recognized the National School of Agriculture its university rank with the denomination National Agrarian University La Molina .

In 1961, the following faculties began to function as academic organisms: Agronomy , Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering and the Institute of Investigations and Advanced Studies (now Post Graduate School). The same year was sanctioned the creation of the Faculty of Science s and the Economic and Social Sciences, which later changed its name to Social Sciences and later by that of Economy and Planning . Both Faculties began their work simultaneously at the beginning of 1962. In 1963 the Faculty of Forestry Sciences began its activities , in 1966 the Faculty of Pesquería , and in 1969 the Faculty of Food Industries .

Subsequently, the Sierra , Forest and Forestry Research Institutes were organized as teaching and research centers that include fields related to several faculties for the study of specific problems.

The functioning structure of the University maintains departmentalization as an academic unit, being the core of research, teaching and social projection operations, grouping teachers who cultivate related disciplines, under a flexible curriculum system.

The Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina is governed by University Law No. 23733, enacted on December 9, 1983, which replaces the system of Faculties, maintains the Academic Departments and leaves each University free to organize and establish its own academic regime , according to their characteristics and needs.
